How Loyal Are YOUR Customers?

It is critical for MLSs and Brokers to measure the relationships they have with their customers.  While most MLSs do not have DIRECT competition, they have tons of indirect competition.  MLSs compete against companies that generate leads for agents since that it one of their key roles. They compete against training companies providing CE credit and teaching about technologies. MLSs also compete. MLSs also compete with companies that provide ways to aggregate and distribute real estate listing information for the purposes of monetizes the information flow.  While MLSs have survived well in the real estate ecosystem, some are more well-regarded than [...]

LIBOR and BNAR getting serious about REALTOR(R) safety

Did you know that nearly 1/3 of REALTORS(R) STAY in situations where they feel unsafe as they strive to make a sale.  Nearly 4 in 5  do NOT ask for Identification/Verification before meeting a client.  Just about everyone (88%) of agents are alone when showing a home to new prospect. Bottomline, many agents put themselves at risk REGULARLY.  While real estate is an amazing industry that provides exciting career opportunities to nearly 2 million people every year, it’s a job that deals with the public.  By definition, it puts agents at risk. The Long Island Board of REALTORS® and the Buffalo [...]

RESO Honors its Outstanding Volunteers

Real Estate Standards Organization, or RESO, recently showed how massive volunteerism is in real estate. It often goes unnoticed, under the radar. But at its sold-out Spring Summit in Austin, Jeremy Crawford, CEO of RESO, took to the stage and invested time to honor more than two-dozen people in our industry. Jeremy recognized each of them for their outstanding personal contributions with a 2017 Spring Tech Summit Award. What’s amazing to think about is that collectively, these individuals contributed literally thousands of annual volunteer hours to RESO. They spent time volunteering for the seven RESO Workgroups – and one key committee – all [...]

RESO Reminder: New Data Dictionary MLS Adoption Deadline is June 21

Jeremy Crawford, CEO of the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO), just posted this vital reminder about the upcoming deadline for MLS Adoption of the Data Dictionary 1.5: It’s less than 80 days away: June 21 is the deadline for every NAR affiliated MLS to have the Data Dictionary version 1.5 adopted. The good news is if you have an earlier version – such as Data Dictionary 1.3 – you can update directly to Data Dictionary 1.5 directly, bypassing the Data Dictionary 1.4. Remember, the Data Dictionary is not a one-and-done proposition: it is a living, growing, always improving standard that needs [...]

Forget About a Statewide MLS! How About a Statewide Consumer Site Instead?

As always there is chatter in our industry about more MLS consolidation.  After Ann Bailey’s proclamation that there should only be 12 MLSs in the United States at CMLS last year, I often get asked how many MLSs should we have?   Should we go for s statewide MLS? While it is logical in many markets to think about a statewide MLS or even multi-state MLS the politics and emotion surrounding a program like that is daunting.  The chances of getting 50 statewide MLSs is slim to none in the foreseeable future in my opinion. There IS a great way for [...]

About MLS Client Portals

This afternoon I was able to enjoy a delightful conversation between two very bright, very experienced real estate CEOs – Greg Robertson of W&R Studios – makers of CloudCMA and CloudStreams, and Michael Wurzer, CEO FBS Data Systems, makers of FlexMLS (America’s second largest MLS vendor). The discussion centered on speed, design, delivery, among other things. It all went down on Twitter. If you love real estate technology - @gregrobertson and @mwurzer are must follows. Bigger Considerations? Stakeholders in the MLS client portal services are a combination of broker interests, agent interests, and by extension a consumer interest. I wonder [...]

How Will You Expand in 2017?

Businesses have a simple strategy – MORE! If you are brokerage, you want more revenue. To get more revenue you need more transactions. If you want more transactions, you need more productivity per agent, or more agents. If you are an MLS or a technology company, you want more subscribers. More, More, More. The problem with more is that it typically does not involve listening to your current customers. In real estate, that means listening to customers. WAV Group is always astounded at the lack of focus groups and customer surveys in our industry. To our knowledge, we are the [...]
