A couple of years ago, two of our most progressive clients came to RPR with a new vision about how MLS systems could work. They strongly believed that MLS systems should be offered in modules to make it easier and more practical for brokers and agents to be able to choose the MLS interface that works best for them. Tim Dain from the Austin Board of REALTORS® and Walt Baczkowski from the San Francisco Association of REALTORS® both saw the opportunity to de-couple the listing input, search and reporting functions from the database that houses all of the MLS information and listing data. When they proposed the idea a couple of years ago, the idea was just a vision. In fact, the same vision was outlined nearly 15 years ago by my former WAV Group partner, Mike Audet. The idea is not new, but until now nobody took the initiative to actually build it. It is very exciting for me to see that one of the industry’s long-standing MLS system and association management software providers has stepped up to help make Tim and Walt’s vision a reality in partnership with RPR. While the release does not outline specific deliverable dates for the program yet, it does suggest to me that leaders in our industry are committed to trying new things that will help evolve the MLS industry and hopefully continue to make it relevant. Howard Lund had a philosophy about lists. He said that it is great to be on the good ones, but don’t take too much pride in it. He shared his thoughts on this whenever I made honor roll, or was recognized for accomplishments in sports. It is the type of fatherly wisdom that sticks with you. I think that Mr. Swanepoel and his team does a good job in their selection – a process too difficult to imagine. Larson Skinner founder named to industry hall of fame

Minneapolis, October 19, 2015: Brian N. Larson was inducted into the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) Hall of Fame at the CMLS Conference in Kansas City on October 8, 2015. According to CMLS, “The honor is a means of recognizing and acknowledging a lifetime of leadership, energy, and intellect that improves and elevates the real estate multiple listing service industry.” During its 58-year history, CMLS has been the trade association of the MLS industry in North America, now supporting 178 member organizations that serve more than one million subscribers. Larson is the fourth leader to be inducted into CMLS’s Hall of Fame. “To many of us, Brian has been a mentor, a counselor, a contributor, a confidant, an organizer, a director, an advocate, a leader, and a friend,” said Shelley Specchio, president of CMLS and CEO of Northern Nevada Regional MLS. “He has made enormous contributions to the MLS Industry, including the refinement and promotion of IDX or Broker Reciprocity, a national policy that empowers brokers to grant listing display rights to each other for advertising on the Internet.” Larson is “of counsel” to Larson Skinner PLLC, the law firm he founded more than 13 years ago. Partners Trust Joins The Enterprise Network

Recently, Partners Trust launched a new fully mobile responsive site designed to dynamically change for over 250 different screen sizes. Along with the “mobile first” web site, they launched new mobile apps for android and iOS. The design was done by 1000watt Consulting in collaboration with Partners Trust and the proprietary technology is provided by Booj.  Booj (Be Original or Jealous) is the platform that powers The Enterprise Network. Booj is an interesting technology provider because they deliver a very good and well-supported solution that is exclusive to a single brokerage in a market place. I got to meet the team behind the technology last year when I was invited to take the stage and share my perspective on syndication at their annual conference. In the real estate industry, the collection and distribution of real estate listing data has been a hot issue for many years, and The Great Lakes Repository (GLR) has made tremendous headway toward solving those data issues. The GLR is comprised of a group of MLSs and REALTOR® Associations (participants) in Michigan that have agreed to share listing data with other participants using a repository method of sharing. Under this method of sharing data, all participants of the GLR run their own MLSs; enforce their own set of rules; manage their own membership; control their own MLS products, but cooperate by sharing listing data in one central location. The sharing of listing data benefits all GLR Members and the consumer by providing all the listings data to all GLR Members, and at the same time eliminating the need for a REALTOR® to belong to more than one MLS, i.e.: offering MLS of choice. Over the last seven and a half years, the GLR has grown from zero to 11 Members all sharing data in their home database. The GLR recently finalized agreements with the eight (8) REALTOR® Associations that are Shareholders of Realcomp II Ltd., an MLS in Farmington Hills, MI. “We are excited to welcome these new Members to the GLR, giving the GLR a total of nineteen (19) Members representing twelve (12) MLSs sharing data,” said Dave DeRees, President of The Great Lakes Repository. Rapattoni has been the leader in Association Management Software (AMS) for decades. Historically an Association would host the Rapattoni solution, called Magic™, on hardware owned and maintained by the Association of REALTORS®. Associations did a pretty decent job of hosting, but managing hardware servers and security has become increasingly complex and expensive.
